BSG writers have done some homework.
I don't want to give away any spoilers, but some of the writing in tonights episode indicates that the BSG writers have studied up on fighter pilot lore.

Not sure I can add much more without running afoul of the Spoiler Police. ;)

1. Why do you say that? - I saw the episode so spoilers are ok
Spoiler warning:

I'm not up on my fighter pilot lore, but I have seen stories about famous generals & the like using the sun to their advantage... heck, even coaches in sports today use it.

2. Hard to guess what someone might see as a spoiler.
A bunch of little things. Like the disagreement about whether to use groups of 2 or 4. But it first struck me when one of the rookies stated that Scar sounded like a coward for using "unfair" tactics, and Starbuck commented by saying that fighter combat isn't about being fair, it's about winning. (paraphrasing from memory) If you can sneak up and knife your opponent in the back, do it.

I think it was pilots in WWI, when they were just learning how to fight in the air, who first made such comments. The public opinion was that fighter pilots were knights in the skies, dueling chivalrously and with honor. While in reality the object was, literally, to shoot the other guy in the back, preferably without him knowing what's about to happen.

I did have one problem. At one point Starbuck announces over the radio that she's going to check their 6, ie: look behind them. It's just not something you'd announce. If you aren't continuously checking 6 in a combat zone you are just a target. However, maybe the writers felt it was needed dialog so most viewers would understand whats going on?

3. Haha...some spoiler
So I'm watching the tape of last nights BSG and...well I don't want to give any spoilers but you gusy worried about talking about fighter pilot traditions and jargon as spoilers for this episode? Haha

"...fine with dead guys." is the only clue I'll give since that was in the ads for this week's episode.

:)
