Hey, they ARE making Forge of God into a movie.

(Greg Bear sez:) FORGE OF GOD has just had its option renewed by Warner Brothers, and is apparently about to go through another (and I hope ultimate) round of scripting. The current draft--by Ken Nolan and Stephen Susco--is absolutely stuffed with "sense of wonder" material straight out of both FORGE and ANVIL OF STARS. I'm very optimistic.

1. Cool books.

Seems like a real challenge to translate the book plot into a film.

2. The trick would be to keep the right stuff.

Thinking back, it seems to me that most of the book would present well enough on film. We live in the golden age of special effects. There's basically nothing that can't be made to look "real" anymore.

"Anvil" might be more challenging. It's a bit more introverted, meditating on the nature of justice and all that. And the culture of the Wendys and Lost Boys is a bit weird. I can imagine a Hollywood filmmaker not knowing what to do with that.

But Greg Bear seems pleased with the scripting, so I feel kind of jazzed about it.
