Dr Who
So I'm essentially brand new to Dr Who (well I'm not completely ignorant of the show but I've never watched it regularly) and I'm giving this new version a try.

I gotta say...So far so good. I'll tape the rest and watch tomorrow but it looks very promising, I already like the Dr's attitude. :)

1. What episode are you watching?
If it's the first one, Rose, just know that it actually gets better from here.

3. Maybe I shouldn't ask
and let it all unfold for me like fans before me but I can't help but ask.

The Doc is an alien? I always thought (from my limited exposure) he was human and in fact the only human "time lord" sort of a "special case".

4. Nah, the Doctor has always been an alien
Where it got spoiled though was in the Fox TV movie from the 1990s where it was "revealed" that he was half human. I truly hope that's not part of the canon. Part of the fun of Doctor Who is that he's an alien and despite his enormous empathy with humans there is always a tension because of his alieness. You'll see this come out more as the 2005 series develops and this is especially evident toward the conclusion of The Christmas Invasion.

And yay! New Doctor Who is almost here!

5. Need some reassurance - RE: Dr Who
Ok, I had heard there was a change on casting of the doctor in this new series but since I wasn't watching at the time I didn't pay it much mind.

But now I think I'm already hooked and I liked how the actor, Christopher Eccleston I guess his name is, played the character. And I was just looking at the web site and was reminded that there's a cast change coming soon. I'm vaguely familiar with the lore that has allowed different actors to step into the role over the years.

Anyway, what's the general consensus? How is the current Doctor now played by David Tennant?

6. I loved Christopher Eccleston
But I think I'm going to love David Tennant as much. I think, based on what we've seen in The Christmas Invasion, he's going to be a return to a slightly darker, more manipulative Doctor -- more along the lines of Sylvester McCoy's Doctor. I was really sad to see Eccleston go though. On the other hand, we're getting Sarah Jane Smith and Cybermen and K-9 this season...

7. I can't WAIT for this season.
The snippets from the end of Christmas Invasion looked great.

And I too was sad to see Eccleston go - after so many actors, you gotta think it's tough for an actor to come in and put his own unique spin on the Doctor but he managed to do it. Tennant stepped in and did a good job. I think the series will be just fine, though I wonder what kind of plot device they'll have to invent when the Doctor reaches the end of his regenerations...

8. Tennant's era starts in 2 weeks.
He had one story, but was not in it much. He was its saving grace... The new series might be excellent indeed. Time will tell.
