| Star Trek Voyager - underrated. |
|
Having finished the Borg collection set that came out, I netflixed a couple discs of season 4.
I wish I'd bothered to have seen more of it at the time, but DS9 had me trekked out...

| 1. I had such high hopes when Voy premired |
|
but I felt it never lived up to them. It had it's moments but I cared more about Morn on DS9 than any of the characters on Voyager.

It's got its moments where the true human nature comes through (usually thanks to 7'o'9), but given the show's producers, they could never really get into the character conflict angle like TOS could. (TNG is their best and there's no character conflict... and often boring as a result.)

I thought it had great promise, in that it could have introduced a greater level of continuity than was needed in the other Star Treks. Specifically, so far from home, they'd have to incorporate alien equipment, which should have become more and more evident as the year(s) progressed. As a writer (were I a writer) I'd have salivated at at such an opportunity. Just one bit of annoyingm yet needed alien tech could have been a vehicle for showing how different characters handle change.
Instead, with very few exceptions, the ship was practically brand new at the start of each episode.
What a waste of a concept.

| 3. That's very much how I felt |

although I'd add character development to my complaints. So much opportunity for conflict and angst, the core cast could've been so much more fluid and interesting like in Farscape given their circumstances.
Enterprise suffered, although IMHO to a lesser extent, in the same way. Lots of promise, lots of missed creative opportunity by the writers/producers.

| 4. I always despised the show |
|
I could never get over that Paramount nixed TNG to put a show lead by the mistress of the producer.
The only decent thing in the show was Seven of Nine.

| 5. And Seven was the one thing I despised most about Voyager |
|
The oversexed hyper-feminized cyborg was such a ridiculous distraction. You'd think that even Seven herself would've recognized, "Hmm... 90% of the male crew and about 15% of the females behave very irrationally around me. This is not efficient. I should perhaps alter my appearance and not dress in SKIN TIGHT CATSUITS AND HIGH HEEL BOOTS AND CORSETS ALL THE TIME!!!"
Okay, the emphasis in that last bit was mine.

| 7. The Sulu series was nixed so Voyager could be made... |
|
At Rick Berman's request, so it must have been his squeezie who prompted a female captain show. (though Janeway is a competent captain... good in noteworthy stories, but there's just as much drivel too.)Now that's flame broiled! :9

| 8. I wish they had made the Excelsior with Sulu |
|
It would have been great specially with George Takei coming out as a gay man.

| 9. I've a movie script written in my head for Sulu/Excelsior. |
|
It would rock, and tie in some elements from the original series.
His tea table in the bridge might need some adjustments, to turn it into a sword rack. But that would be cool, too.
