The BBC's Doctor Who and Bleak House have triumphed at the British Academy Television Awards.

They each won two awards at the London ceremony, including best drama series for Doctor Who, and best drama serial.

ITV's The X-Factor took the best entertainment series prize, political comedy The Thick of It won two awards, and EastEnders won best soap.

Doctor Who's Billie Piper, who plays the Time Lord's sidekick Rose Tyler, accepted the award for best drama series on stage with a dalek.

The BBC One programme also took the Pioneer Audience Award, which was voted for by TV viewers, which Piper described as "a treat".

Speaking afterwards, Doctor Who writer Russell T Davis said: "It's lovely, it's gobsmacking, it's a programme that children watch and the family watch."

1. Congrats to the cast, crew, and especially writers.

They have done an exceptional job bringing this series back - I have enjoyed every episode immensely.

2. Hmmm

Series One is a bit iffy, especially in the long run... But I do like half the stories...

Series Two is a vast improvement, apart from its opener, but don't let "New Earth" sour your spirit.

3. Well there's people who would flip your opinion around.

Though IMO I like both the series. The 2005 series (I suppose if I was a purist i'd say it's series # 27) has got its good parts. My favourite part of the 2005 series was The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (as a double episode. Likewise for the 2006 series (so far) my favourite has to be The Rise of the Cybermen & The Age of Steel episodes (back to back).

Though it is weird as heck seeing Roger Lloyd-Pack, who I am more used to seeing in comedic roles such as Trigger in Only Fools or Horses or as Owen in The Vicar of Dibley play a villain in this one as John Lumic.

4. I'm a purist...

Officially, it is known as "series one", "series two", et al. :D "Season 27", 28, et al, seems more an insult because the style and direction RTD's vision has is far soap-opera and far-flung-fantasy than all that's preceedded it. (Series two is quite an improvement, though.)

The Cybermen 2-parter was very good, but my vote has to go to "The Idiot's Lantern"... or "The Girl in the Fireplace" despite its flaunting heterosexuality and the fact it's about the Doctor's lust as a subplot ( :mad: )

It's also funny how JNT was criticized for using light entertainment actors, and RTD is praised for doing the same thing. When, from my perspective, Beryl Reid was on par with Roger Lloyd Pack... both a bit OTT at times, but passable.
