Languages in BSG
While watching a rerun of "Lay Down Your Burdens" where there is a Presidential Debate scene I noticed something.

There is a man sitting in the audience wearing large headphones. Perhaps this is just a bit of equipment for his audio recording or perhaps he's doing a remote live "radio" broadcast. But because of the size and look of them my first impression were they were the type of headphones used for translations, like at the UN.

And it made me wonder if there might be different languages in the colonies. You'd think almost certainly there would be but that whatever language we are hearing has just become a common language that everyone (so far) knows either as a first or second language.

1. Good chance of some sub languages
I remember in the original there were different languages for each planet. They never named what they were speaking or whether it was Caprican, or Common, but I do recall someone speaking in Geminese and they couldn't understand them. That's when they introduced Cassandra in the original, because she spoke Geminese.

They haven't even touched on it in the new series that I've seen. Maybe it doesn't make sense to have multiple langauges. If they call came from Kobol and had a unified language there, and had constant contact since then the chances of the languages splitting up would have been slim. You never know though. Thousands of years? There has to be at least some splinter groups that have their own language by now.
