I believe I mentioned at the beginning that although I was initially hooked I was a little suspicious that the show might end up loosing my like the X-Files did. Although the X-Files took several seasons Heroes may do it in one.
I want and demand good character development, I'm not someone who's just interested in the expect flash associated with a superhero story. But I do want some. But more importantly I want the character development to go hand and hand with decent plot development.
The character development looked promising but now seems to be lagging along with Plot development. Last week's episode was slow but seemed to progress just enough to keep me but then this week almost seemed like a step back.
I'm all for subtlety but outright plot obfuscation is just wasting my time.
I'm not giving up quiet yet but they are dancing close to the line from my perspective.

Seems to me that character development is really gearing up - I like the development of the cop character, who I wasn't originally thrilled about, and the "bad guy" who may not actually be the villain. Plus, we're only what, eight episodes into the season, with nine main characters - how much room is there really for tons of character development?
I don't know, I really enjoy the show, and I have no problem with the pace of character development at all. I think that if anything, it's the plot that needs to start revving up, and I think that's what they are hinting at for next week's episode. Now, take "The Nine" - which is/was all character development, no plot advancement (no plot period???). I initially enjoyed the show for its attention to character, but the apparent lack of plot movement lost me after four episodes.

| 3. I agree about the police officer character |

And perhaps the problem is that there are too many characters.
If the plot revs up, and doesn't go into the kind of twists and turns that made the X-Files plot so disjointed in the last few seasons, they'll keep me.

That's my main complaint. I griped elsewhere (maybe the Entertainment forum) that those five-second-scenes are too easily used to create the illusion of depth and mystery, when in fact they just turn a show into a music video, often sans music.
I don't care a bit about Mohinder or his daddy issues, and the "truth in a dream" motif has been overused to death in popular culture, to the extent that it's trite and redundant here. I would much rather have seen a Hero in India from the get-go than bog down in little teasers about what his dad did or didn't know. And if I found a key in my dad's notebook, the first lock I'd check is the one on his desk, especially when that type of lock is most often used on a door.
And I hate hate hate the pop-culture distillation of evolution-as-destiny nonsense. Sure, it plays well to the masses, but it's simplistic and misrepresentative.
Still, I watch every week...

:)
But yeah I'm a bit turned off by the 'evolution as destiny' motif too. So far I'm able to get past it and hang on with the show but that is one point why they're going to have to work all that much harder to keep other qualities of the show...well high quality.

| 5. furthermore, it appears that this "evolution" is being induced. |

If somebody kidnaps you, modifies your genes, and you wake up two days later, what does that have to do with evolution? Are these new traits inheritable?
