BSG - Nitpick - really minor spoiler not details

Well I'm not sure it's a nitpick but something that has occurred to me and with the scene I just saw (I won't include any details) I just gotta ask.

The colonials never did much exploration of their galactic neighborhood during peacetime did they?

I mean with all the important archaeological finds they are just stumbling upon you'd think any sort of effort would've found these things before.

Not really important, because it's not detracting from the quality of the show, and it's an easy suspension of disbelief but still it presents a little geek nitpicky nagging question.

needs a lot of willing suspension of disbelief. Like the roads across the campsite on an algae planet. I've given into there being a lot of inconsistencies in the series. Just part of what it is, an evolving story. So sometimes things happen that are part of the evolution that aren't consistent with the original episodes. No big deal.

3. With the religious undertones in the series,

It seems that they weren't supposed to find the archaeologically significant objects until the time was right. And considering the complacency that the humans showed in the 40 years prior to the Cylon attacks, I'm not really surprised that they didn't explore things more deeply.

4. Humans Were Constrained From Exploring

Remember there is a Cylon territory that was off limits to humans. It's possible the territory they are currently travelling in was off limits before the Cylons attacked.
