Dr Who series 4 episode 12 spoilers

The title was finally released: "The Stolen Earth"

* It takes place on modern day Earth
* Old foes return (Daleks)
* The Doctor has his own hidden army
* All his old companions return
* Probably has a lot of obvious and dreary satirical comments on today's society - given the title, it'll revolve around peoples' livelihoods, I suppose
* No doubt the episode will find more ways to slam its audience, as usual

1. There was a lot of buzz between seasons as to whether Davros would return.

Any word about that?

I'm kind of concerned, based on the trailer at the end of "Midnight" for the first of the three-part finale, that it will essentially mimic last year's finale, where a whole bunch of stuff happens and then a giant "reset button" is pushed and all is right again. Leaves you a little empty.

2. Yeah, he's returned. And another SPOILER:

The Doctor is exterminated, one second into the future.

I suspect 'reset button' too. "Much ado about nothing", which sums up RTD as a writer.

He's had some good ideas, but his implementation of them is incoherent and inconsistent. Much ado about nothing.

3. "Incoherent and inconsistent"

Yup, that pretty well sums him up. Great ideas that he just can't seem to wrap up well, and so he falls back on the aforementioned reset button or deus ex machina (Rose absorbing the time vortex, Series 1). So the final scene of The Stolen Earth is Tennant's Doctor seemingly about to regenerate. The thing RTD doesn't realize is that there's no pleasing way out of that. You simply cannot dump the most popular Doctor to date in the middle of story. But any way that you back out of what is clearly a real regeneration is going to be lame. Oh it'll probably involve his leftover hand, and/or the one-second shift into the future, but Tennant will remain the Doctor and I (and probably many fans) will be pissed at RTD for toying with us like that.

4. Actually, a real regeneration would have been the best thing.

The show has done it before, and if RTD wanted to give a really big send-off, that regen would have been it.

I posted the cliffhanger's resolution. Read it at your own risk, but it's pretty bad. (thanks to a chat forum when people started typing out what the resolution was. *ugh* )

Needless to be said, Fred Freiberger's ideas he put into Star Trek's third season were vastly superior by comparison...
