'FRINGE' - The new J.J. Abrams series.
I just watched the pilot for J.J. Abrams new television series and it is good. 'Fringe' is like an X-Files about Fringe Science rather than Supernaturals, Monsters and UFOs. It very well done and I look forward to seeing it in September.

About the Pilot:
"Special Agent Olivia Dunham, is called in to investigate when Flight 627 lands when everyone on board are found dead. Olivia discovers the one man who can help her has been institutionalized for twenty years."

It can be seen here: http://www.surfthechannel.com/

2. Watched it
Very good, had a lot of nice touches, some clever digital work for example, and top notch direction.

3. Indeed, I also liked it alot...
it is like a flip side to the X-Files.

5. That's my view as well
For one thing, Fringe is just too formulaic. Crazy Denethor playing Crazy Genius does nothing for me, and if I see or hear the old "genius is one step from madness" archetype one more time, I'm going to go crazy.

Also, his son's passionate whateverism struck me as hopelessly trite the first time I saw it. And the whole thing seems so consciously desperate to be cool (to be "Fringe") that I can't get into it.

While I'm at it, I get the vibe that the whole thing is bound together by some overarching behind-the-scenes conspiracy. That concept was the absolute weakest part of The X-Files, since it pigeonholed the characters into pursuing a plot that either wouldn't be fully revealed (it wasn't) or would be lame insofar as it was revealed (it was).

If anyone but Ambrams had come up with this, it would have been off the air before the end of the second episode.

6. I gave up on it
at first I thought I saw potential in the characters and how they were written and acted...but I soon realized I was grasping at straws and whatever I saw didn't make up for the awful science and deteriorating quality of the plots.
