| Reading Dan Simmons' "Ilium" right now |
|
I bought it in advance of a 3-hour layover in DC I had yesterday - I needed something big to read that I knew I couldn't finish in one day. So far, I am about 400 pages into it (in one day of reading) and I really like it. This is my first Simmons novel, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was hard to get into at first since he basically starts you off with no context to the story, just right into the characters and action, leaving the reader to slowly start piecing things together. This is definitely a great travel book, since it just sucks you in and the time flies by as you read.

weave a great story. He's a great story teller. I had a similar experience, thinking it would take me a long time to get through such long books but in fact I read through them quickly.
I had read the Hyperion books before though so I know I liked his style, but as a fan of Homer who reads the Iliad and Odyssey pretty much every year, I was skeptical. But I'm glad I read them, fun and interesting story.
