AMC Developing Red Mars

I saw this on scifi weekly:

(snip)
AMC is developing Red Mars, a series based on Kim Stanley Robinson's 1982 novel, from writer/executive producer Jonathan Hensleigh (Armageddon), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

I'm gonna be watching this story, it would be very nice indeed to see a good translation of the story to TV. But somehow I doubt the person who produced Armageddon is going to make that translation very well in my estimation at least.

1. Hensleigh seems like an ill omen to me, but I guess we'll see.

2. Two possible optomistic views
since the story is much more about character than flash (based on character and societal issues rather than action based like an asteroid hurtling towards Earth) perhaps that will force him to concentrate on that and not the f/x. Not likely though, or rather I haven't much faith in his ability to concentrate and succeed at good character presentation.

It might be worth watching just to see how he protrays the collapse of the space elevator :)

3. Great...and shit!
One of my favorite books ever, but this scares the crap out of me. Originally the Sci-Fi Channel was going to do a miniseries based on the trilogy, so considering their track record of movie making this may be for the best.
