Just finished Greg Bear's new novel "City at the End of Time"
through the entire thing, I kept feeling like I should be enjoying it more than I was. But it never quite gelled for me.

It wasn't bad, mind you. Anybody else reading it?

1. I haven't read it yet, but you're not the first to say that.
I've already seen a couple reviews that say pretty much the same thing you just did. Oh well, they can't all be winners, and he's due for average book. I'll still read it though. :)

2. I read it a couple of months ago
and it definitely took a while to 'gell' for me too. I know what you mean but at some point, not sure I can say where, it did click and in the end I felt very glad to have read it. It was a similar experience for me as reading "Wreck of the River of Stars" by Michael Swanwick.

3. Perhaps I will change my mind...
I wasn't really very enamored with his cosmology, either(*). I mean... the chaos-fighting powers of books and cats? Really? I never quite felt sure whether I was reading a science fiction novel or a fantasy. The ambiguity didn't feel especially pleasing in this book.

(*) and the first time I've ever had to say that about Greg Bear, of all people.
