| Short "Drag Me To Hell" review |
|
Edited on Sat May-30-09 02:14 PM by wyldwolf
I know it isn't sci-fi and maybe DU should combine the sci-fi and comics forum and create a genre/geek forum... but anyway.. I went hoping the movie would live up to the gushing over it I've read on several sites like AICN.
What a disappointment. It sucked. I mean, it was really really bad to the point of it being like a parody of horror movies. The SFX were cheap and I laughed at times that were supposed to be scary.
Don't waste your money. Second worst horror movie I've ever paid to see (nothing tops Blair Witch in that department!)

That's all I needed to see.
No horror movie should EVER be PG-13.

| 2. Really? It Getting A 93% Score At Rotten Tomatoes... |

and an 83 at Metacritic. For reference Star Trek scored 95% and 83.

Reviews aren't based on a consensus of other reviews, they're based on on the individual reviewer's opinion. I think it sucked. And being that it's the #5 movie in the country after just one week of release, I'd wager plenty agree.

From worst to first is a pretty big gap. I was thinking about going to see it at the theater but your review might relegate DMtH to the Netflix queue.

| 5. it appears to be the PG13 rating |
|
One writer this morning stated giving a horror movie (especially one from Sam Raimi) a PG13 rating effectively "alienated the base" - to us a political term.

| 6. Well I Caught The Unrated Version On DVD Sunday Night... |
|
and while not horrible it was a bit lackluster. There were some new ways to do disgusting (the car/curse scene was a hoot)but nothing really scary. The FX ran the gamut from very good (fly)to pretty bad (some living shadows/possessed goat). The ending was too heavily foreshadowed but I like how Raimi didn't pull any punches at the climax. Overall... ...meh.

We saw it at a cheap theater and were glad we hadn't paid more.
Some of the reviews were enthusiastic, which is puzzling.
