This classic is getting another perspective of the book placed upon the big screen and Peter Berg is directing it. It seems the script is already in and Josh Zetumer has written it. http://www.duneinfo.com/new-dune-movie/

| 1. I well remember the disappointed reviews following lynch's version... |
|
And this was exactly the nut of it:
"but at the end of the day, it's about a kid becoming a leader. There's incredible action in it and really great intrigue and betrayals, it's Shakespearean in its scope and I think it'll be a blast."
Lynch's version missed the core of the story. It's also why anybody who hadn't read the book had no fucking idea what was going on. A bunch of people whispering mysterious comments to themselves is not a substitute for a plot.

| 2. The thing that has always killed me about Dune... |
|
is that Paul's destiny is never in question, not for a single instant, from the first moment we see him until the end of the novel. Even if he himself does any soul-searching about it, it's perfunctory at best and something of an afterthought while we wait for the universe to annoint him.
Still, I'm curious to see what a third film version looks like...
