I mean, the effects don't make the show, of course, but the bit with the prototype Cylon going through the shooting range was really, really bad IMO.
And Eric Stoltz will always be the Son of the Fly to me.

'Cause he'll always be Alan Tofsky to me, which is weird since he was only in five episodes of Mad About You.
The special effects, for better or worse, haven't been much of an issue for me. Although, come to think of it, that may be because my VCR is getting old and I don't get that good of an image when I tape any of my shows.
Nonetheless, I'm twelve shades of excited to see how they develop the Cylons and what role Zoe plays in their ultimate rebellion.

I've never seen or read a post hoc "enemy origin story" that really added to the character(s). Every time they tell you how The Bad Guys came to be, they risk throwing Jake Lloyd all over the screen. If they're not extremely careful with Caprica, they'll fuck up both incarnations of BSG!
(Before someone suggests The Killing Joke as a rare example of a successful post hoc bad guy origin story, I remind the reader that The Joker himself speculated in that very book that the origin story told within it might not have been true!)

I just can't see where they're going with this. It doesn't seem to conform to BSG canon. I find it strange that adult Bill Adama never mentioned any of the events being built up by Caprica. Especially seeing as he was so close to them. He himself never saw the irony of his own life? Now that I think of it, is there some kind of Kain and Abel thing being worked up here?

to laying the groundwork. From what I've read, Caprica is intended to be a significant departure from BSG. I did like the surprise of the mother blurting out of nowhere that her daughter was the terrorist. I like the easy going way they've laid out the society - polygamy, the origin of the strong Cyclon belief in one true god. I think it's interesting and not surprising that Bill didn't follow in his dad's footsteps in law - must have been pretty confusing for a kid to have a lawyer dad and a criminal uncle  Kind of puts into perspective a little bit why Bill was really upset when Lee chose to defend Gaius Baltar during BSG. I don't know if I'd be too ready to even think let alone talk about my dad's shenanigans that eventually lead to the Cylon War and the destruction of their civilization.

I fuzzily remember a fair bit of referential treatment toward Joe Adama during that story arc. Like I said I've only seen ep.1 so things might fall into place later.

(Since you guys is smarter.)
Are the Soldiers of the One True God going to turn out to be the "Cylons" from that nuked planet that the Galactica ran across?

I hadn't thought of that possibility.
I wonder how much of the story details from the BSG series will show up in Caprica. So far, the only such specific thing I can think of is the Adama family. (I'm not referring to the general situation and history, of course. Or the British Columbia locations. :) )

on its own merit . In my estimation not many TV shows will ever match Battlestat Gallactica.
The one exception is Babylon 5 , but it is long gone.

- btw on a somewhat related side note i'm glad that bbc survivors started season two immediately after season one (this past week) i was a bit stunned since that almost never happens (tho i suppose the uk has already seen it all ahead of those of us in the u.s,) anyway yeah i'm glad they did it that way...

But mark my words, Amanda Graystone will be back. She's in the frickin' opening title. They can't get rid of her. Tamara will still be gaining power in V-world. I'm curious to see what will happen to Zoe's avatar after her crash. After feeling abandoned by everyone before her crash, could this be the seed that ultimately makes the Cylons go scooters? Well, I hope not, because that would be silly.

| 17. No, I think Ellen Tigh and the whole Cylon gang are floating around the colonies already. |
|
They have memories of being on that nuked planet, so my current theory is that they've made their way to the colonies and are trying to recreate the technology for resurrection before they die. And my suspicion is that some of them are behind the Soldiers of the One crew. But ultimately, I think they're going to end up inside the Cylons, much like Zoe has, and then use the Cylons to finish their resurrection plans.

lol well i'm confused maybe but i'd thought of the possibility that some sort of odd thing had occurred with time...
on edit: your theory does seem much more plausible (and works much better - i think my confused idea is really a bit far-fetched)...
