my favorite episode... there are so many actually... but I think the one where Bender has to take over for Santabot, and gets arrested, is my favorite for the best visual joke in the history of animated television when Zoidberg bursts into the execution chamber after fry, leela, and amy burst in as santa and he shoulds "and I'm his friend Jesus!"
never fails to reduce me to hysterics

If you don't have the DVDs, run out and start picking them up for the commentaries. Some of the best commentaries on DVDs I have heard, simply because they reveal so much info and "inside Jokes" that you otherwise might not get (unless you were REALLY well read up on old Sci-fi).
Plus, the commentary is HILARIOUS. You can tell that the people behind the show are sincerely and truly funny folks, and that Futurama was something they really loved working on.

best sci-fi in cartoon form (including Star trek). I mean, the sci-fi part of it was amazing. Fry becoming his own grandpa, thereby missing the brainwave that allows him to save the universe....As good as Babylon 5 time-travel episodes!

5. Not a single show, but many memorable lines. |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 05:13 PM by Touchdown
Amy: "How do you like my new bikini?" Professor: "You look like a cheap, French harlot!" Amy: "FRENCH!?!"
Professor: "Oh' my. What are those disgusting orange creatures over there?" Slurms McKenzie: "Those are the unca-lunkas. They work here at the Slurm factory." Professor: "Tell them, I hate them!"
Leela "Al..." Dressing up like Peg Bundy with her last male cyclops in the galaxy hubby.
Mincing queen neighbor: "The robotsss got to go!" "Hey! The TVssss back on!" ...it was the way he said it that's funny.
some kid on street: Why should I have to pay taxes and support old people? I don't owe them anything!" split second later, same kid only 80 years old..."I deserve my social security, and dammit they owe me!"
Professor: "Well good news! It's a suppository." ...after they find Atlanta..."Yes, advanced, but they still don't have it in suppositories!"

. . . since Cartoon Network still airs Futurama. I love any episode where Nibbler speaks or Kif has a prominent role. I'm also a big fan of episodes with robots from Flexo to Kwanzabot. The simple fact that robots have an actual Devilbot is still hilarious to me.

7. It's criminal that this show was cancelled |
|
Meanwhile the Simpsons is still running on fumes...*sigh*
Anyway, I love any episode where Bender is being a complete and utter dick. Which is pretty much all of them. :) But especially the one where he was floating out in space and that tiny civilization sprung up on him and worshipped him as a god. That was so damn funny.
FWIW, I maintain that Futurama had the best continuity of any tv show, ever (except maybe Babylon 5, but that was basically written ahead of time).

it over the years, I'd never noticed Bender "shitting a brick" before.
Edit: Or I'm just senile, and totally forgot about it.

13. did you notice Nibbler? |
|
When Fry "falls" in the freezer, you can just make out Nibbler's shadow in the corner.
Remember when, much later, we found out Nibbler pushed Fry? It was already there. Unless they went back and added Nibbler's shadow later.

Zapp: "We don't know anything about the species we're invading, but we DO know that they stand for everything that we don't. Besides they called you guys jerks."
Bender: "They're jerks!"

14. Roswell That Ends Well, my favourite episode |
|
President Harry Truman: "If you come in peace: Surrender or be destoryed! If you come to make war: we surrender."
Dr. Zoidberg: "Both good, but the good thing is I'm meeting new people."
Harry Truman: "What are your plans? Are you planning to make an alien-human hybrid?"
Dr. Zoidberg: "Are you coming on me?"
Harry Truman: "Hot Crackers! I take exception to that!"
Dr. Zoidberg: "I'm not hearing a 'no'."

Except I recall (production season 3) being the worst. Its good episodes were GREAT, bvut it had the worst as well.
Zapp Brannigan and Bender are the best characters. Well, Kif was in seasons 1 and 2 when he really got to react to Zapp's hilarious stupidity.
NOTHING tops it when Zapp orders Kif to follow him up to the bridge. As Zapp climbs the ladder, Kif follows, sees that Zapp isn't wearing underwear, and groans in disgust as he turns his head away.
"I, Roommate" is another hilarious one.
The only season 1 clunker I recall is "Mars University".
And "Fry and the Slurm Factory", if shown to people who haven't seen it, have to be told to shut their eyes at the menu or else the shock value is lost! I saw it on TV originally and couldn't stop laughing - and groaning in utter disgust!
"The Problem with Popplers" is another classic and also revolves around ingestible commodities... :D
You know, Futurama + Food = Fantastic.

18. "The Earth stood stupid" - just saw it last night - one of my favorites |
|
The entire "brains" storyline is perfection. Loved the Babylon 5 references, the books, trapping the Big Brain in a nightmare of bad plots and misspellings (Fry's own book).

The professor: "This display of friendship between nations is angrying up my blood! Sweden? Pah!"
My favourite episode is the one where Bender is drifting through space and becomes the god of a civilisation that arises on his butt. Brilliant.

21. I always loved the fact that it had a heart as well as comedy |
|
The episode where Bender has a civilization develop on his body, the one where the timeslips mean that Leela never finds out what Fry did to make her love him and the last episode all where touching as well as smart and funny. They never traded character development for cheap laughs, and they never pretended that one liners were a substitute for writing.

22. The "Bender becomes God episode" is my favourite too. |
|
I agree with you about the show having heart - a classic example of this is the episode involving Fry's old dog from the 20th century. The end of the episode is extremely sad
