Seems like a strange heading for this group but I need some advice. I assume the outbreaks I've been experiencing are due to being perimenopausal, though, so far, it's the only symptom I'm having that I've noticed. I've tried the typical OTC treatments without much success. Is this kind of acne different from "teenage acne?" My skin is drier now than when I was a teen and some of these treatments seem pretty harsh and maybe counterproductive.
I never expected to be dealing with this as I approach 50! Thanks for your help!

It started when I hit 45. I actually find using Pro Active (The stuff of info-mercial fame) to be really helpful. I've done the dermatology prescription cream and anti-biotic regimen and once it got under control the Pro-active has kept it really under control for the past 4 years.
It also is not drying at all

My skin is much oiler than it used to be, but the OTC acne stuff dries my skin badly. I asked my son's dermatologist, she recommended just being really careful to wash my face with a non-drying soap and to limit wearing makeup when I am not going out. I still get a few pimples every month, but it is pretty much under control. Now I wish I could get my kid's acne under control. It would help if he'd wash his face every once in while, but he's 13 and very sensitive about the issue. He really resists being told to wash his face :(.

I use Boraxo powdered hand soap on my face and have daily for 25 years (after a dermatologist recommended for my adult acne)
give some to your kid and try it too, it helps a lot
