| Well, Boomers, you have been blamed for just about everything on General Discussion |
|
You have been blamed for the Reagan Revolution and the Moral Majority. You are blamed for the shitty economy and the environment. You have been blamed for just about every injustice that has been committed in the past 30 years or so. And all by that a whiny, angry, do-nothing group called Gen X.
As has been told to these folks, Boomers aren't perfect. However, there is a lot of thanks that should be given to Boomers. Boomers lost their lives, both fighting an unjust war and fighting to END an unjust war. They marched for civil rights, and some gave their lives for that as well. And yet, the whiners who absolutely hate you guys can't acknowledge the sacrifices you made to end an unjust war, and a military draft which could have taken any Xers who didn't serve later on.
Again, my hat is off to all of you. I was born a month after President Obama, and I don't really consider myself a Boomer or Xer. But I realize your generation sacrificed and worked much harder for positive change than the Xers. You are truly in my eyes the real "Greatest Generation." Thanks to all of you who made it possible for me and so many others to never have been subjugated to a military draft and the other injustices you fought against.

I used to resent that our hard work went unappreciated and pathetically attempted to "educate". after the Vietnam war ended and I failed at marriage, I moved into the forest with my two baby sons. no water, electricity, or neighbors. in this paradise we thrived until friggin Mt.St. Helens blew up. my first stop back into society was a rest stop where this freaked out woman is crying about the president being shot. (to myself, I think, Nixon finally got what he deserved) then I realized it was the 80's and Ray-gun was the pres.
the movement was long and arduous, we all went on vacation when the war ended. many of my comrades went from true hippies to yuppies, trading in their beliefs for bmw's etc., farmed out their child raising responsibilities to day cares. big houses two cars. it all went to shit.
I am ashamed of what happened, and of our legacy.

A Just society takes time and even though the values of the social revolution didn't take immediate hold, it opened a lot of eyes and had a positive effect on the consumerist culture of NA.
Some say 'Womens Liberation' was our greatest achievement. You would know better than I. Just sayin'...

| 4. No need for shame - remember how much we were in the minority, |

inside a stupid culture that fought against us, co-opted us, and ignored us all at the same time. We did pretty well - we were the pathfinders, and there would be none of this without our efforts at trying to turn the ship on to a different course. We certainly had our spectacular failures but we NEVER did anything halfway, and we made many very basic changes to the thinking of people around the world.
Feel better - you don't deserve to take on other people's shit.

Disco music and the great Blackout of 1965. Anybody remember that?
Just about the entire East Coast, I think it was. November 9, 1965
I did it.
the TV was on the fritz (damned rabbit ears antennas!!!)
I went to adjust it
the lights went out
not just in our house, but all over the neighborhood. My father got the battery powered radio and we heard it was spreading.
It was either:
1. The Soviets or 2. Me
Well we found out the "official" story, but I still think I did it
