| WOW, MAN! I just completed my Social Security application ONLINE!!! |
|
Took all of ten minutes, signed and submitted. I am 62 in early August - you can submit several months before your birthday or whenever yu decide you want it to start. My big government check will go right into my checking account starting in August. I needed some dates and numbers, but the whole thing was a breeze, and I did it all in my gym shorts from my chair at home. Didn't even have to wear shoes! Certainly not a fortune, but with my meager pension and a few extra bucks from savings, I'm good! I recommend this online application thing to anyone crazy enough to want my opinion. BOOMERS UNITE!

| 1. Followup: I got a statement from Social Security already. |
|
Everything is set up, and I will have my first payment deposited to my credit union account in mid October. I am going to get a few dollars more than I thought, and with my small pension and saved money we will be doing OK.
I recommend that anyone planning on applying for SS benefits do so online. It is pretty painless, no waiting in an office, swine flu, etc, and it is FAST. If you have a problem with the result, you can appeal, and I don't see any downside to this.
FWIW.

I'm not there yet and maybe there won't BE any SS funds by then, but I'm glad to hear the system is still working.

| 4. My understanding is that the stories of SS funds running out are untrue, |
|
similar to the birthers or killing old folks stories circulated by the RWers. Don't worry about it.

I have a few years to go yet (will be 57 in July), but it's good to know the system is working on-line. I will definitely collect at 62 - my husband is two years younger than me, so he has a few years to go yet as well.

| 5. I retired at 59, 4 months before my 60th birthday in '07. I had had |
|
several heart attacks, and was discovered to have diabetes as well as high BP. I went back to work for 4 years, but was able to retire and live off savings and a small pension. The SS is no fortune, but it will certainly come in handy.
I realise am very lucky to be here at all, and I love being at home...I'm not one of those who hates not working, and I feel sorry for them that feel that way.
The online SS application is very easy, and I have received 2 letters affirming the start date and ammount, and that it will go directly into my credit union checking account every month. It is a relief to know it's already set up.

| 6. It's extremely efficient |
|
The Rethugs tried sabotaging govt for 8 years so that everyone would be in favor of "drowning it in a bathtub". But the truth is just the opposite.

| 7. I wouldn't mind drowning a few of them in a bathtub..... |
|
or a mud puddle, for that matter.
