| Bagged two more 4K peaks yesterday |
|
and with my son no less. Just about 35 more to go to get into the NH 4K club. lol
Did Osceola and East Osceola...very beautiful views and a very nice climb up to Osceola. Pretty rough getting from Osceola to East Osceola though but we made it fine.
We probably should've looped around via the Greeley Ponds Trail but we only had one car and I didn't feel like walking 3 miles back to the car at the end.
There was some ice we had to contend with but we managed. The weather was perfect though.
One odd thing we didn't see any wildlife except one toad. Then this morning on my walk in the small local conservation woods (suburban Boston area) I see two large Deer and a large wild turkey. go figure. :)

in California..........sigh. Bought the cat hospital and that was the end of that (when I just did relief and housecalls I could go to the Sierras every weekend all season, and hike locally whenever I wanted).
I sort of got bit by the bug again this weekend. I decided to STOP WORRYING about the 4 or 5 mountain lions in the Santa Monica mountains and start doing conditioning hikes on a regular basis (I do this alone, hence the concern about the lions). Bought myself a new fanny pack at A16 and off I went..........6 miles and 1000' gain. WHY am I so tired, lol???? I suppose it's that I'm not 30 anymore, and haven't hiked that much in 16 years.........
Anyway, greetings from a fellow hiking nut.

Good to get out there isn't it?
I was surprised to see this thread kicked up again, thanks for the reminder :)
Actually ususally I like to have at least one big hike done by now but looks like the earliest I'm going to get started is Memorial day weekend. But maybe I can do a lot over that weekend.
I really need to get out there, I feeling very cooped up and confined. :)

| 5. 6 miles and 1000' gain...we call that flat in NH |
|
:D
These here New England puritan types didn't have time for any namby-pamby things like switchbacks. Why waste time walking back and forth when you can go straight up?
I've never hiked in California, but I have hiked some in Oregon and Montana. I was amazed at the trails out west, completely different (and newer) philosophy of trail design.

| 6. Well, the 6 miles and 1000' climb was an initial conditioning hike |

for a 51-yr-old woman who hasn't hiked to ANY degree in 16 years. So I drove 2.5 miles down the street to the Caballero Canyon trailhead which goes up into Topanga State Park. We are talking Santa Monica "Mountains", lol. Which are actually hills AFAIAK.
Back in the day, I had my share of death marches in the High Sierra. And I have done Whitney as a two-day trip. Twice.
I didn't think it was wise to make my first hike a big one. I am carrying 15 lb I definitely don't need, and need to get in condition, which will take quite a while.

I recently started jogging again after a loooong time without lacing up the running shoes. It's very frustrating to so slowly work myself back up to what absurdly easy years ago.
