| I Caught The Fish Of A Lifetime This Morning |
|
I managed to haul in an 8 lb., 25" long brown trout. Huge thing, put up a helluva fight. I'm not likely to catch a better fish in this lifetime (but it'll be fun trying).
I was fishing the S. Platte River, west of Colorado Springs. Used a 5-weight rod and fished tandem nymphs: a #16 flashback Pheasant Tail, trailed by a #18 green Copper John (we caught all our fish on that green Copper John; it's lethal in the Platte). And, per usual procedure, I returned that big sonovabitch brown and the rest of the fish we caught to the river, so somebody can wrestle with them in the future.
OK, back to the non-stop gun talk.....

Catch and release too. I like that, I hope you got a picture anyway. I caught a 22" Dolly Varden trout in British Columbia when I was 13. Many, many moons ago. Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass on top water is still my favorite, I'd rather catch bass on topwater than have sex. Congrats on the Trout.

| 6. I've Done Plenty Of Bass Fishing Over The Years...... |
|
....and I'm fully conversant with the "better than sex" scenario. I swear though, western trout angling has really done a number on me; I don't know if other forms of fishing will fully satisfy me again.
As far as catch-and-release, somebody once said that a wild trout is far too valuable a resource to only catch once. I don't think I could even order a farm-raised trout off a restaurant menu at this point.
Many thanks on the congrats.....

| 2. Holy shit! That's fantastic! |

Did you get a chance to snap a pic?
I fished the west branch of the Penobobscot up Maine way this spring. It's a fantastic landlock salmon fishery, the largest I caught was close to twenty inches, but the landlocks tend to be long and slim. They don't pack on the weight like the browns do.
Congratulations, that truly is a "Fish of a Lifetime."

....and he's supposed to email them to me. I'll see if posting them is within my capabilities. Fair warning: the fish are a lot better looking than I am......

| 3. Reminds me of the story I heard 'bout a preacher. |
|
He had an irresistible urge to fish as the fall weather cooled down and the sky cleared to a perfect blue so he called in sick to the deacon on Sunday. Not wanting to be caught he slipped away into the next county and spent the morning fishing in a pristine stream with the sun shining on his shoulders and a gentle breeze cooling his face. Suddenly he snagged a fish much like you describe, the catch of a lifetime.
Stricken with guilt he turns his face heavenward and says, "Sweet God, I've sinned! I've forsaken my flock and lied to my friend the deacon. How can you reward me so with this magnificent fish?"
A deep and solemn voice replies from the sky, "So, who ya' gonna' tell?"

Priet gets a hole-in-one on a par 5 but God notes (gleefully) he can't tell anybody!

Not that big a deal, I just think it's funny that you can't even post your own thread about fishing without making anti-gun owner cracks.
Congratulations on your fish.
