My wife was reeling in a large mouth bass last evening but there was only half a fish on the line? |
|
What does that mean? Does that mean we have at least one large northern pike in this small lake? Large mouth looked to be about a foot long with a decent girth before something bit it in half. How big a fish would it take to cut that fish in half with one bite like that?
Think we are going so switch to steel leaders tonight?

2. I don't know if anyone has caught any Muskies here? I think the water may get too warm for them? |

My neighbor reminded me that several years ago when we had the lake shocked to record the size, type and health of the fish we have in here a 36 inch Northern Pike did float up. I am beginning to think he is still alive and a bit larger by now?
Thanks for the suggestion though.

3. I'd guess a very large |

snapping turtle. Pike use teeth to grip before swallowing, not to rip apart. Be easy for a 40 or 50 pound snapper.

Have seen smaller ones, maybe 18 inches round crossing the road from one pond to the other or sunning themselves on fallen trees. Didn't think we had any that big though?
Also know the guys who collect and eat fish here and can't use a stringer or there won't be any fish left by the time they are ready to go home. They have to use a basket or live well to keep them protected in.
Bet thats what got this fish. Thanks for the suggestion.
