Anybody want to talk about sailboats and sailing? |
|
I tried this once before in this forum and no one did, but I thought I would give it another shot.

I will say we were in our first race in the Catalina 34 from Annapolis to St Michaels Memorial weekend. Lot's of fun, and work, but haven't had the chance to get back. My nephew though did take a few weeks and sailed around the Delmarva Peninsula during July. Hope you are enjoying your summer. I think you and I are the only ones.

2. Hello Richard - I remember you from last season |
|
I know of at least one other sailor - Denbot.
He bought a boat last year and plans to sail to the S. Pacific with his wife in the next couple of years.
We had some excitement over the winter. The tsunami in Catalina Harbor was *interesting*. If you want to see some of the videos from our boat, just search for "tsunami Catalina Harbor" on youtube.
Now we are sitting in a beautiful little cove on the island. A boat or two comes in every other day or so, but mostly we have had it to ourselves.
My husband really wants to do some racing, and I hope he gets the opportunity this month. Our boat is definitely not a racer, but he has friends with better options.
I spent some time on the East Coast this spring and was fascinated how the conditions were so different than the West Coast.
Anyway, maybe we can attract a few others and have some conversation.
Nice to see you again!

3. That was our first race and it was fun. Our boat isn't... |
|
a racer but sailing in a class is OK. LOL, we came in last and that won't happen again. We had some problems with a new jib that didn't allow us to point very well which was caused by our inexperience. The jib is larger than our old one and we were not able to tighten it up. We just didn't think about it until it was too late. When we were good with the wind we held our own against J boats but into the wind was a different matter. Live and learn. I am hoping to get down in September. I have been tied down with a new puppy and couldn't leave the two dogs with my wife for a long weekend. Now the pup is getting big enough to go along. Anyway my nephew is getting a lot of use out of it.

4. 10, 15 years ago my parents and another couple split the cost to get a sailboat |
|
Picked up a 24' single-mast.
We went out in the Sound and sailed around. Day sailing. It was pretty nice. Mom wasn't too thrilled about it though... wasn't fast enough to suit her.
Or maybe it was the chemical toilet... ;-)
