Something to look forward to. Thinking about doing sailboat race... |
|
from Annapolis, MD to Bermuda next June. It's a 753 mile open ocean race and sounds real interesting. Anyway I have a race coming up in Sept from Annapolis to Oxford, MD. Woot! Back on the water.

1. I have never been out of sight of land |

...except while in the Navy. I did a huge amount of dinghy racing and yacht racing in the 1990s. Hundreds of starts.
Bermuda sounds like fun. Does that mean you have to station a watch at 3:00 A.M.?

2. Yes, you would have to station watches. When we brought the boat..... |
|
down the coast we sailed through the night always with one on the wheel and one person assisting. For that trip we did two hour watches because the weather was so bad you couldn't be on the wheel more than two hours. There were three on board that trip.

4. I expect the winds would be more reliable in June, before the "Bermuda high" sets up ... |
|
...in the Atlantic Ocean and causes calm weather. Or so I recall from my weather class

3 weeks straight. I was talking to some Navy midshipmen last week that were in a race I was in and they have done the Bermuda race. They say it shouldn't be missed if you can do it.
