| Went ice fishing today................ |
|
I couldn't stand to be inside another minute and even though I didn't get any bites it was beautiful just sitting out on the lake by myself. I think it's kind of a Zen thing. Of course now I am thawing out. Brrrrrrrrrr...........

| 2. I guess this was *without* the little house on the ice |
|
I saw those on TV; some even had heaters and TVs! Guys sitting around in shorts around a hole in the ice.
My buddy from MN didn't understand why I was so shocked . . .

| 3. No "little house" - just me in........... |

my parka with my back to the wind. I saw a show on those ice houses with the heaters, tv, stove, beds, etc.. Unbelievable, but maybe i'd feel different if I lived that far north.

I have to admit that it still freaks me out walking on ice but I do it anyway. I have this vision of falling through and the hole closing up behind me. I was ice fishing a few years ago and this guy comes over to me riding a snowmobile. The noise they make annoys me but what can you do. So the guy asked if I caught anything and I told him what i had caught. Then he ask me how thick the ice was? He's sitting on, I guess a 500 lb. machine, and I said the ice was about 2" thick. I was kidding but the look on his face was priceless. LOL

I never learned to feel comfortable walking on ice and I dislike standing around in the cold waiting for the fish to bite.
Great story about the look on the face of the snowmobiler. I don't care much for snowmobiles south of Alaska.

is great fun. We drive on our lakes and rivers all winter long. The ice gets 3 to 4 feet thick and we have to put extensions on our ice drills to get through. It is very comfortable to fish in a ice house. Most are carpeted with beds, TVs, Table, and a Stove to cook on. Some of our lakes we drive 7 or more miles out on the ice to our favorite spots. Most resort owners plow a road out to the ice houses that they rent or someone with a plow will make roads. Now that we have GPS and GPS maps it's easy to find our favorite fishing spots. The best times for ice fishing is early ice and at the end of the ice fishing season we call black ice. Although fish are caught throughout the winter. I am now looking forward to the black ice (my favorite) when we can only walk out and fish for crappies and bluegills.
