And Ohio, and Indiana, and Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, and Ontario...
Spring steelheading is so close. For the Michiganders, I've heard the PM and the little man are breaking shelf ice and getting ready. The Big man and Musk. are warming. I've tied three boxes of nuke eggs, one grapefruit box for dirty water, one box of stones, and several Muddler boxes (streamers being underrated for spring Steel).
It's this/close. :)

and it will be several weeks before the ice is gone and the streams are fishable so color me jealous.
And yes banjos are indeed underrated. :)

----homer alert----
Michigan is a great place to visit for fly fishermen. I don't know where you're from, but if you ever want to get here for steelhead or salmon, pm me and I'd be happy to point you to some gems and, if during winter, places to stay. Our steelies aren't in abundance like pennsylvania, but after tourist season ends, you can, literally, have miles of water to yourself. Most Michiganders that winter fly-fish also hunt, so when the rut is on, it's just you and snow. And, maybe, 3 people you'll see in a week. Light flourocarbon and ten+ pound great lakes' steelhead make for a great week(end).
on edit--we had a warm spell, but now it's bitter cold again so no fishing. Soon though. :)

and if I ever get out your way I'll take you up on that offer.
I live in NH, no steelhead here, some hardy souls do fly fish through the winter where they can find open water, I'm not quite that hardcore though. A few more weeks and the ice and snow will be gone and I'll be out there.
