first one in tne years or so. I was amazed at the legal hoops one has to jump through now-including an on the spot background check. All in all, about an hour. Then, I had to show the clerk how to disassemble the gun to fit it back in the box. Was this Brady bill residual or 9/11 fallout????

the same process I had to go through, when I bought my single shot 12 gauge from WM, summer of 04. It took at least an hour, and I believe most of the time was wasted on them waiting to get the info pulled up on me. I had to sign a few papers, at the time, I didnt' even really care what I was signing, because I knew I was in good social standing civically...and I was also escorted out of the building, by their security guard. When I got outside, the guard gave me the gun, and I was on my merry way.

| 7. My main gripe: no abbreviations on the NCIS |

Could not abbreviate anything at all. Street, state, nuttin'!
Past that, it was okay. It was in South Dakota, where the waiting period is exactly how long it takes your credit card to clear.

| 8. It's been law since the 1990's... |

in the early 1990's, the Brady Law was passed, which required a mandatory waiting period for handgun purchases, and encouraged, but did not require, a background check to be performed on handgun sales. Gun owners lobbied to replace the waiting period law with a mandatory point-of-sale background check for all firearms, and this became law in IIRC the late 1990's, giving us the current NICS background check. The paperwork (BATFE Form 4473) dates to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
