I've identified 10 content areas that need people to think through and write up a plan for as the first step. There's no rocket science involved. Anyone who has ever held a job that required them to plan their own workweek has 80% of the skills they need.

Genius is right: this is the time to begin, if we ever want it to happen. Feingold has already created his website. The clock is ticking.

Right now most people seem to be swimming in de Nial, pretending that someone else will somehow, somewhere, magically, choose to do the work. We could carry on doing that; it even has a payoff: after another DLC crypto-Republican is nominated in '08, we'll get to play Ain't It Awful and moan about how rotten it is that they didn't choose Dennis. If that's what we want, it requires absolutely no effort, though we could probably form a club for mutual alibiing. We could call it Concerned Couch Potatoes of America with the motto 'Caring Should Be Enough'.

Or we can grasp Reality's nettle, accept the pain of knowing that we are It, and do the work that must be done.

What is the status of his running at this point ...I sure hope he will consider it. I have a feeling there will be enough folks to reqyest that he does run again.

At this point, I'm told, Dennis is not interested in thinking about the future. My strong ...very strong... sense is that he's feeling burnt. The tens of thousands of calls and emails begging him to stand didn't translate into a support operation, and his experience is all with charismatic, local campaigning. So that's how this past campaign was run--like an ad-hoc local campaign. It wasn't a networked operation in any meaningful way. There was a lot of 'warlord'-ism -- people acting in isolation, issuing ukazy about things they didn't understand, ruling their tiny fiefdoms with iron fists.

I'm sure that if people simply begged him to stand again, he'd smile and turn us down. He half-killed himself once, and he'd be a fool to do it again, don't you think?

So I'm proposing that we do this next one completely differently. That we follow the well-understood program model from industry, using it to produce an organisation and have it greased and ready to go before he needs to announce. There'd be some point relatively early in that process where we'd have part of the framework built and some idea of how much public support there might be. That's the point where, if it made sense, we'd go to him for an in-principle commitment. If he said 'No' then we'd take a decision as a team about whether to re-focus on someone else or fold our tents. But I feel as sure as I can that, if we had the skeleton of a machine and some credible metrics about support, he'd give us a very solid 'Yes'.

And you couldn't be more right...'08 looks far away, but that's only in 'misery time'. In 'work time', it's bloody close!

who will hate him for not taking from the poor to give to the rich, -- they will be powerful enemies -- and a little like saying "Hah!" to those who doubted him because he "looks like an elf" or he's "too far left," etc.

And it wouldn't be tough to convince others. What is there to dislike about Dennis, unlike you're some conservative fundie? The problem is getting his name out there. I know of friends, who would have agreed with his views, who weren't familiar with him. Dennis has to become front-page news, difficult if you're on the side of right and not doing terrible things in this fear-based society?:shrug::-(

But he is the best since Jimmy Carter, I agree. As for Jimmy Carter, perhaps things were different then. *sigh* I remember when he was first running, and I liked him, immediately. My brother, who has grown up to become a Freeper, used to refer to him as "Rhiannon's man." He was my candidate. I don't know how he got elected, but the country totally turned on poor Gerald Ford, who pardoned Nixon, a very brave thing for him to do, IMHO. He wanted the country to move on, a prescient term, and the poor man paid for it. I understand, now, that he and Jimmy Carter are good friends and he has helped Mr. Carter in his international efforts. Just figures, doesn't it? Mr. Carter is good at making friends.:-)

Why do you (generic you) suppose the Democrat politicians are so spineless? It's a reflection of the spinelessness in the population, in us. Everyone around here is completely willing to sit on their bumbaleeries and play endless games of Ain't It Awful and Dennis Is So Wonderful, but nobody's willing to do the work that must be done to make things not-awful or get Mr Wonderful into the WH. Doesn't anyone feel even a little ashamed about that?
