| slightly OT - A piece written by Jeffery Lewis, THK's chief of staff on John Heinz |
|
John Heinz died on April 4,1991 - this was written on that anniversary. There are many quotes from Heinz that are interesting. The Republicans really need people like he was, but I would guess that, like his sons and wife, they are no longer Republicans. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/opinion-piece-former-staffer-to-senator-john-heinz-laments-the-lack-of-civility-and-political-courage-in-senate-today-and-need-for-more-men-like-the-late-senator-89916267.html

He seems to have had the same vision of leadership and legislation that JK has. I particularly liked this excerpt from one of his speeches, quoted in the piece: "I think the reason for this failure of spirit, is a lack of confidence; a lack of confidence in our leaders, our institutions and even ourselves. We Americans have always been renowned for our ability to meet and conquer tough problems..."
Boy, does that describe the nation now!
I really enjoyed reading the whole piece.
