I don't have time to write the essay I want to write here right now (lucky for all of you!) so I'll just post my personal opinion that, despite the challenges of a recalcitrant GOP in the Senate, paralyzed members of his own caucus, an often shallow and thrill-seeking blogosphere and a general lack of media attention to much of his work, I believe that JK is in a good place right now in terms of his lifelong mission to make our country and our world a better place to live in. I don't think he's compromising his strong personal ethics one bit even as he finds ways to compromise in ways he can stomach, to build bridges even to the likes of T. Boone Pickens, or in his so-far unwavering support of the Obama Administration. I have not the slightest doubt that if he strongly disagrees with the White House, enough that it troubles his powerful conscience, he will not hesitate to say so. For now, I'm so happy to see him finally able to do the work he feels he has been called to do, with a president he can work with and the influence in the Senate as SFRC Chair to affect policy in a meaningful way.
