OMG, I'm so excited. I get to watch a hearing on Tues at SFRC |
|
I saw bits and pieces of the last one on Afghanistan with Richard Holbrooke. (Which was ok.)
Tuesday is part 2, in effect, of that hearing with the other panel. (That, childishly, wouldn't sit together for one hearing.) Tuesday, July 27, at 9:30 am
Panel I The Honorable Ryan C. Crocker Dean and Executive Professor George Bush School of Government and Public Service Texas A&M University College Station, TX
Ms. Zainab Salbi Founder and CEO Women for Women International Washington, DC
Dr. David Kilcullen Non-Resident Senior Fellow Center for a New American Security Washignton, DC
I am dying to hear what Dr. Kilcullen has to say. I know he has a new book out to plug, but I really like this guy. And he obviously had something bad go down with McCrystal. So, I am genuinely interested to hear what Crocker and Kilcullen say on Afghanistan and how the distinguished Chair of the committee questions them. (Exquisitely interested in "how" the chairman questions them. That will be as revealing as the answers, in my book.)
I get to watch a hearing again! I am home, not working, I have internet access and I am not doing stuff for my kids or Mom or whatever. I get to watch a hearing. I'm so verklempt!

4. That's great! Although, for a minute there I had you in DC with a front |
|
row seat ticket in hand. Still, on the internet with no interruptions is the best! I also like Kilcullen, and will be interested in hearing what he has to say. I won't be able to watch (relatives in town and my kids are at home, of course), so you'll have to report your thoughts on it.

9. So did you watch, Tay? Did others here? |
|
I'm kind of catching up by listening online while I work and hope to watch it more later, but I'd love to hear any thoughts anyone who watched had on this hearing! Wish C-SPAN had filmed it. :-(

The wierdness in my life continues. My son and daughter were out at Comiccon last week in San Diego. Monday was their day to fly home. Long story short, they ended up missing their connecting flight home to Manchester, NH. So, I was up late on Monday and up early Tuesday making alternative plans to get them. So, I saw some of the hearing on Tuesday, in between phone calls.
Just the way it is sometimes. I seem to be going through a period where the Universe is telling me not to venture far from family concerns. It happens.

If you get the chance to catch the archived version, I'd love to see your thoughts. I did manage to watch most of it last night and thought it was some pretty amazing stuff. Certainly points up the dilemma we face as a nation in deciding what to do about what seems a no-win situation. I was heartened to see JK not mincing any words about just how tough a place we find ourselves in but also suggesting that he had a couple of thoughts about options (not for public knowledge at this point.) I think it's great that he is realistic, but optimistic, and truly believes that human communication is always possible.

13. My son and daughter were there for Comicon |
|
And so my daughter could hang out and wait for stars from every BBC America Show to come out and play. She had a blast.
Unfortunately, my favorite summer show on the Beeb, The Choir, did not have a panel there. Pity that.
