I know Senator Steven's was on the other side and he was a thorn in our side many times, but I still can't help but feel sorry for his family and wish he life did not end this way.

It is easy to forget that Senators really are people who work together and come to know each other as people. In this case, for more than two decades. Though their values placed them on opposite sides on drilling in ANWR, it is nice that they did work together well on the legislation he mentioned. (I think they worked on some of the communications things in the Commerce committee too.)

I agree with you this is very sudden and sad.
