In English: If the subject has something to do with France, I don't see why English shouldn't be allowed. I don't want to push away those who have something to say or ask, since the French at DU can be found here.

My French is rudimentary, but enough to follow what I think is the gist of the question. I've also not consulted with my fellow moderator about this, so their feelings and understanding may differ.
The charter for this group is to allow a forum for French speakers to feel at home. While it is assumed this will involve primarily discussions relating to France, Quebec/Canada, or the greater French culture, it is still open to all subjects. I certainly could envision participants in English who are interested in some of the subjects I listed above, but who are not capable or comfortable with speaking in French. I myself am of French heritage (Hugenot, but not from Louisiana) and am very interested in French politics and culture.
But, while I hope everyone would be gracious to such visitors, just as DU is the home for Progressives where they can relax, this is a special corner for Francophone Progressives to relax without having being made to defend themselves or feel like they have to conform.

If I thought like that, I never would have dared to write here. Even if I butcher English I know my DUs friends forgive me.
I don't know if this site will be a success. But It could be a simple meeting place. Our relationship has never been very easy and cool ; Now it's very less easy and less cool, this discussion place could contribute to answer some questions : what about our differences and our resemblances, what about France today (Voltaire, Rousseau, Beaumarchais, Molière.... are died a long time ago)..... Let's try

Problems start when the talking and, more importantly, the listening stop.
I am looking forward to discussions in this forum. While we are not going to solve the real problems here, it is a start nonetheless. Best we do not repeat the mistake of becomming small minded that Bush and company have done.

| 4. So, what about a very little change in the title and the mission statement |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 03:37 PM by Rochambeau
of the group in order to mention that opportunity to our strictly anglophone friends? The group could be renamed as 'Groupe Francophone et Francophile de DU' or even 'Francophone and Francophil Group of DU' (I doubt the French here would mind if the title is in english as long as it still mention the francophone main mission of the group). And Ellen or BurtWorm could propose a short sentence to ad in the mission statement introducing the purpose we are talking about in that thread.
What you think once again ?

but we can add a statement that discussions about France in English are also supported.
