Working for the worst company in the world can really stress you out. |
|
I have depression, social phobia, and anxiety.. and work at Wal-mart as a cashier. Sometimes it can be hell on earth. We never have enough help.. always getting backed up and have 4 or 5 or more customers waiting in line. The stress is really starting to take a toll on me and I've even had a few panic attacks. We are hiring a few more cashiers, but I'm not sure it will be enough especially with the holidays coming up. I hope I can make it through the holidays but I am almost to my breaking point.. I just can't take it anymore. This is a company that cares NOTHING about their associates and only cares about the bottom line.. they are trying to get rid of all the full-time employees and only run the stores on part-time help. I am full time and worried that my day is coming. I am not going to give them the satisfaction of quitting though; I am going to let them fire me and collect unemployment while trying to find a better job with a company that actually CARES about their employees... it's disgusting that this is the richest company in the world and yet can't even pay their associates a living wage. I am going to my psych doctor on Wednesday to see if she can change my anti-anxiety meds.. because what I am on now is NOT working.. though working for Wal-mart I'm not sure anything would help. Thanks for listening to me rant.. I feel better now that I've gotten this off my chest...

1. I understand what you are going through |
|
My dad worked part time at Walmart as a second job. He said the working conditions there were terrible, and, like you said, they didn't give a damn about their employees.
I hope you are able to get through this and find the kind of job that you deserve.

2. i pass on a bit of advice given to me today |
|
don't give them the power to break you. easier said than done, don't know if i can do it myself. gonna try to hang on to that for a while and see how it goes. meantime, hope you can get your meds adjusted. i am sure there is something that will work better for you, it's just a chaotic process sometimes. take care of yourself the best you can. drop by and rant.

3. It's taken me 8 years to recover from working for a terrible company; |
|
and I only worked there 6 years!
I know that there are some permanent changes; I never used to be this shy.

It's amazing I've made it that far, actually. Didn't think I'd last 6 months.

I got my meds adjusted Wednesday, and things seem to be going a little better now... at least I didn't get freaked out today when lines got backed up! I do like my job most of the time, but I'm not going to let Wal-mart break me. I'm going to take one day at a time and going to wake up each day thinking to myself, "Today I'm going to make it!" It's a stressful job but I do have friends at work who make it at least somewhat enjoyable! It's nice I can come here to vent though. Thank you all. :grouphug:

My panic attacks got so bad I couldn't stay inside the building and now I can't leave my house without severe anxiety.
I'm trying to get some help or get on disability or something.

Get help and you can live again. My panic attacks started when my daughter was diagnosed with BP. I lost all quality of living due to the constant panic I felt. I realized I counldn't help her unless I took care of my self. I take 3mg of Ativan a day- it has given me my life back. I can go to the grocery, I can get out and visit friends, meet people etc...finish projects.
Maybe you can talk to your doctor about it- My first doctor gave me Zanax- A really bad drug in my book. The second doctor prescribed 150 mg Wellbutin combined with the Ativan.
I love the way I feel now and NEVER want to go back to that space of not being able to drive or even leave the house.
Hope my story helps you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

9. so glad to see that you are doing well, my dear. |
|
hang on to that! how is your daughter doing? i am worried about mine. she has been doing ok, but i am very worried about her eating habits. she is skinny as a rail, and has become a vegan. not that there is anything wrong with that, but with her history it worries me. she has always been compulsive about food, and i fear it is getting the better of her. i don't see her much so there is too much room for fear to grow.
having my own problems, and seeing a new therapist this week and a shrink next week to try some meds myself. thank ja for better living through chemistry.

10. I'm glad you're feeling better. |

After I had the real bad panic attack at work, my doc upped my Buspar and it has helped a lot. The past few weeks I've really felt great. I hope it continues as we go into the holiday season.
Thanks for sharing your story, and hope you continue to do well.

It wasn't that bad for me though some of the CSMs reminded me of Frank Burns, I got out in May of 99. The next job was OK for a while, but in the end the toxic work environment almost cost me my life. It took me quite a while to recover, almost three years to find full time work in my field, and a couple more to recover some semblance of financial footing.
