but the one person who can talk to me is electra's school social worker. i just had a long talk with her about what was going on. she tells me that the t-doc and her have just been waiting until she turned 18 to give her a dx of borderline personality disorder. she says this whole mess is absolute classic shit. she is calling her dad to explain all this to him, and is also calling the shrink. can you say phew

Reading through your posts, borderline occurred to me a few times. Are your daughter's relationships this volatile with people outside the family?
Maintaining confidentiality, though, is a big part of a therapist's ability to gain trust with a client, thereby enabling fuller disclosure of said client's issues and perception of things. Without it, therapy will never have the chance to become therapeutic for the client.

but this knowledge would have allowed this family to protect itself from a lot of damage. and probably would have allowed us to deal with her in a way that is more useful to her. and would have saved me many hours of gut churning crap. man, so many hours in doctors offices, trying to figure out what to do about her "headaches" and "stomach aches" and other unexplainable illnesses.
and yes, a large part of this dx is from seeing her interactions at school. she is in a therapeutic day school. she has been seeing this t-doc for 3 years. they have a good relationship. so far, anyway. i don't think she is going to like this dx, and i presume there will be some fallout. but she is very open with him, and has seen her go through many relationships. she goes through friends and boyfriends like kleenex.
