My obsessions and compulsions are driving me insane |
|
One of my worst one is the internet. I'm not getting as much work done as I would like. I feel the need to check LBN every few minutes in case "something happens". What, I don't know.
I can't get a doctor to treat it other than passing out anti-depressants. They don't work for me and they end up making my mouth dry meaning i can't talk properly and the lack of saliva causes cavities. I've already lost 8 teeth.
I just sitting her blowing panic attacks thinking about it.

1. An anti-depressant seems an odd way to try to treat |
|
obesessive/compulsive disorder. I've heard of people being prescribed anti-anxiety meds before for that, but not anti-depressants. But I'm no doctor.
I asked a question about OCD a while back because I think my sister has it and somebody on here who is a mental health professional said that the disorder is usually treated with some form of talk therapy and possibly anti-anxiety medication.
If this is affecting the quality of your life, you may want to check in with a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist or an MD. If you are having panic attacks I would say that this is definitely something you need to be treated for.

2. If anti-D's are not helping this, you need to ask your doctor |
|
for something else - not meds necessarily - but perhaps referral to counselling/therapy.
Lots of people are easily hooked on the Internet, and I once read that almost everybody has some degree of compulsion about something....be it checking if they lock the front door.....having to have rooms tidy just so....etc. I certainly know that most people I know have their "things"....:-)
Sometimes I find myself checking too much here on DU, so I have to realize that...take a deep breath, look away from the computer, and push away from it...and go do something else.
Looks like you need an adjustment to your approach to this, so certainly get more help for that if you need it, imho.

3. I know of someone who takes a low dose of Zyprexa |

to help deal with OCD issues. Seems to have helped him a lot.

4. I have no idea why you were prescribed A-D's to treat what may not... |

truly be OCD. If you went to an MD, I would get a second opinion. But, not knowing what meds you are on, I will give you this word of caution, do not stop them with out getting a second opinion, and ensuring a lower dosage step-down program is adhered to. Ceasing some meds "cold turkey" can have serious ramifications. I would get to another physician, one Iyou trust, and find out what is going on. Diagnosing OCD is not like diagnosing a broken leg, it takes time and there are certain steps that should be adhered to to come to the proper diagnosis. There are some other things that might mimic OCD and these must be ruled out first.
As for the panic attacks. These can be serious, and you need to get with a physician to see if they are caused by, or enhanced by the meds you are on. I too am addicted to this damnable internet, but I've learned to get away...some things are just not that important, they can wait. Your health is important, take care of that, and teh rest will fall into place...:)
