The good news is that I've got an excellent new job that I'll be starting next week that will pay me more money than I've ever made. The bad news is that I have to be out on the road for 14 days at a stretch and then 2 days at the house. As you might imagine I will probably run into a problem getting my prescriptions filled.
My current insurance will only fill my psych meds once a month and only for the next month. So I could be out on the road for a week and run out of meds. The only solution I've thought of so far is to park the truck (I'm a truck driver) and then catch a cab to the nearest pharmacy. That will probably be pretty expensive, though.
I can go a few days without psych meds, but I wouldn't want to take a chance with going a week without them. Ideally if I could get my meds filled three months in advance it would make it a lot easier for me to plan around getting them filled.
Is there another solution to this problem that I'm not seeing? Thanks in advance. On edit: None of my meds have any black market street value.

1. Hi, Droopy, I was wondering lately how you were doing..... |
|
and your new job sounds really great. :toast:
I hope that others here will have some suggestions for you about getting more meds in advance - I would think that a letter from your new employer to your doctor or insurance company would settle this matter speedily.
Best of luck with your new job and with getting this sorted out.

I took about 6 months off from DU. I came back in February, I think, but I haven't posted in this forum since I've been back until now.
I have an appointment with my shrink tomorrow. I will see if he can do anything.
I thought that there might might be people here who are in a similar circumstance or who have somehow got their meds a few months in advance. I've heard of mail order pharmacies who will fill prescriptions for a three month supply, but I don't know if that will work with psych meds or if my insurance will cover it.

3. UPDATE ON THE MED SITUATION |
|
I went to see my psychiatrist today and he wrote me 3 months' worth of meds on one prescription sheet. That means that the next time I fill my prescriptions I will have three months worth of meds. That will be very expensive because I will be without health insurance for a little while, but it's the best that I can do. He also informed me that I will probably not be able to get the prescriptions filled out of state. So when the time comes for me to get my prescriptions filled I somehow have to make it back to Ohio. That probably won't be too difficult. I will probably be running through the sate quite a bit and maybe right by my house.
I will also make my new dispatcher aware that I have a medical condition that needs taken care of through medication and occasional doctor's visits. She/he doesn't have to know what that condition is because it does not affect my ability to do my job or conform to DOT regulations.

(in my experience) will fill out of state scripts if they were valid in the state they were written in, and if they are not for narcotics.
Another option is to use a national chain like Walgreens (I know them specifically), who keep your scripts on file and are able to fill them from any of their stores -- not just the one where you drop it off initially.
Good luck.

5. Sgent has an excellent idea about using a national chain for your scripts. |

It would make it a lot less complicated to get your prescriptions filled out of state.
I've spent a lot of time in FL in the past year and have had no trouble whatsoever getting my PA scripts filled.
Good luck in your new job. A lot of insurers are taking the three month mail orders because it saves them money in the long run.
I'm sure you'll get it worked out! :)
