does the word "crazy" offend you

or can only you use it refering to yourself

or is it a word with so much stimga, it shouldn't be used at all

I refer to myself as crazy all the time....as do my loved one in an affectionate, joking manner...

1. I'm crazy.

Meds make it manageable. Without 'em I might be a crazy hermit living in a culvert somewhere.

We live in a nation that would rather believe in demons than biology, which is why there is a stigma.

But I don't need a damned exorcism or anyone's prayers for crazy -- their ain't no demons here, just me, and I'm not hiding.

3. Depends how they use it. I mean, if it is substituted for "energetic"

eg. "This chilli sauce I just rubbed in my eyes hurts like crazy" then it doesn't seem that bad.

I think the real barrier is the line between it meaning "things are for no reason not what they should be" like in that song Mad World, or when people use it as a term of affection it is ok, but if people use it as an insult, I won't be happy.

But honestly, I don't hear it used as that, much. I DO hear a great many people saying things like "Oh, Bush is bipolar and the dem party has multiple personalities and Cheney is a frucking sociopath brought on by childhood narcissism" and crap like that, which annoys me, as does any other armchair Dx.

4. we had a thread on this a while ago.

i call my bipolar daughter my crazy kid. she uses it to describe herself.
i have a few stray neurochemicals myself, and will sometimes identify myself with it.
it can be a scary word, especially when you are in a state of worry about yourself. and it can be hurled with a painful force sometimes. but, ya know, sometimes it is the best word to describe the whirlwind some of us live in. the cut and dried medical words sort of lack the grit of our real lives.
besides, i tend to hate the word police. they are always trying to take away the words with the most power. i just don't give up power if i can help it.

I've had people call me a crazy bitch and I've not minded at least. And others whose eyes I wanted for my keychain for the same words.

I don't believe it's possible to live in this world and not be at least a little batshit. It's a matter of degree.

But when someone who is not qualified wants to pathologize me? Then I go on the warpath. I am not bipolar, borderline, manic, depressive, or otherwise according to Aunt sally down the street. My dx is for me and my doctors (and hyperkinetic insomnia aren't really dxes, they're symptoms of something non-defined).

use it all the time to describe ourselves. She's bipolar and I have OCD/Depression. We have a pact that only one of us is allowed to be symptomatic at a time.
