Sometimes we need to know what others do to lift their spirits.
I discovered this video today when listening to Michael Bolton sing "Back on my feet again" on YouTube. I try to listen to that song every day as I cope with the frustrations and problems of the moment. It is a powerful song and this video is amazing. Look and listen if you have a few minutes.

2. I listen to Cuban music and try to call one friend or one family member
every day and talk about SOMETHING ELSE. I also look for opportunities to talk to my neighbors. Depression can be so isolating and these little interactions help me feel more connected. :)

3. I go for a walk
Even if it's only the three blocks to the food co-op and back. There's something about walking that's therapeutic to humans-- I think it goes back to our hunter/gatherer prehistoric past, where we'd walk several miles a day looking for food.

It seems I always feel a little better after I take a stroll, no matter how far I go.

4. Kick for more suggestions.
Sometimes when it's possible, I clean and garden. It makes me feel calm and good to get to SEE something I accomplished that day -- even if it's just the absence of cat hair on the couch or weeds in the roses.
