I'm having second, third and fourth thoughts about applying
to that MA in counseling program. And I really don't know why. It would be so much fun to be in a classroom again as a student. It would get me more active socially again. Oh, and I could let go of my resentment about putting my degree on endless "hold" to support us when Dougala couldn't work.

I don't see a real downside but I'm not filling out the application every day!

Can't figure out if I'm still in deep denial about my divorce and at some level, trying to hang onto that marriage, if I'm lazy or if it's depression or :wtf:

The deadline is this week but like most deadlines, it has some wiggle room. But enough already. I feel like I'm in that "I love Lucy" episode where she keeps changing her order after each of her dinner companions make their selection.

Maybe I should breed dogs. Or sell cr@P! to tourists. Or teach ESL. Or retire. (Oops -- too young.)

Not making a decision is hard work. :silly:

1. Go ahead and sign up, Beth.
it just seems like the thing to do at this time, and if it has been something you have wanted to do for a long time, then its probably just jitters about starting something new keeping you from this.

The Dutch have a great expression for it - "drempel vrees" literally translated to "threshold fear" - used a lot in daily language.

Probably the idea that this will mean you are "moving on" from your divorce is getting in your way here as well.

I graduate in October - an unbelievable feat for me with all of my problems, anxieties, and "drempel vrees"! It has enriched my life as I had hoped it would, Beth, really opened new vistas, besides being an interesting challenge and exercise in stick-to-it-ness - something I really lacked in my younger years.

You know you want to do it! Let us know when you fill in the application!

3. Get on up on that Good Foot...
And apply, for pete's sake. Geez Louise. You know you want to do it. You know it's gonna be hard work, especially with the thesis and the practicums, but you know that when you get that thang, you are gonna be MANAGEMENT and you can make a real difference and advocate well for a LOT of people who really need it.

And you also know you are gonna have a job that pays well in about 5 minutes flat.

So what was the question again? ;-)

6. That's a really good point. When I mailed off manuscripts
or even turned in papers, I used to pretend I was my own secretary. Just put on that Miss Brooks hat. It made it much easier and simpler -- two of my favorite modes.

That's right -- too many competing goals and worries that need to be detangled. I need some Prell for the INSIDE of my head. lol

7. Everyone I knew...
Who used Prell for the inside of their head stopped using it around 1972 or so. The incidence of unrestrained maniacal giggling, greasy complexions and friends sitting on the chests of friends plummeted.

8. I'm 2/3 done with my part of the application.
:grr:

It occurred to me today that this paperwork bothers me much more than any of the work I'll have to do in the program.

Someday, grad programs may just be able to do Vulcan mind melds and we won't have to do this sh!T!

Whatever. Something changed and it's getting done. Pant, pant.

10. The next really hard part...
Is the defense of your thesis. Now remember: it is not advised to use oriental martial arts to defend your thesis.

11. Good, because I can barely manage simple wrist releases.
lol

And that is exactly where all those GD flamewar skills will come in handy.

I spent six years dreading my oral exam in Shakespeare, 16th & 17th Century Lit. At this point, I'm all dreaded out. Honestly, after turning in this package, the only real worry I have is finding a parking space. Isn't that cool?!

Today, the "personal statement" has to get written so I can mail this baby. The instructions include about 40 topics and they want 20 paragraphs. My inner English 1A teacher is screaming, "Your topic is too broad and too messy!"

:P
