Since Monday, we are up to six(!) suicide attempts in this area, that I have heard on my police scanner. 5 of those were on the same day! One was described, by a policeman on scene, as a "suicide in progress", whatever that is, and that dispatch should stat the ALS and BLS response. I have done on-scene crisis reponse and have never heard something put in that manner. It did sound quite dire.

Something is going on out there and I really don't like what I am hearing.

This reminds me to get after one of the Crisis Peer Counselor positions that are available at the local hospital. Better to be on the front lines at a time like this, methinks.

2. It's the holidays

When life is SUPPOSED to be good.

When you are SUPPOSED to feel happy.

When friends and family are SUPPOSED to come together in the spirit of love and peace.

This is by far the worst Christmas I have ever had. My marriage just ended, my workplace (a homeless shelter) is in turmoil because of some really, really bad crap going on...I went shopping the other day and I thought if I heard Burl Ives sing "Holly, Jolly Christmas" one more time I was going to lose it.

In times like we are facing now. At least not your "Average American" Christmas.
