I finally gave in.
I ended my self-imposed drug exile and went to the doctor and talked antidepressant and ADHD meds.
I've had some side-effects issues in the past. Starting with tinnitus and sexual effects when on the SSRIs, along with stimulant jitters when on Ritalin/Concerta. When I was on Lexapro in the past, it made me really, really apathetic. So apathetic that I ended up unemployed for three years, living with my parents, and my family conspired to get me off the meds because they were sick of me being about as active as a houseplant.
Since then, I've been off the meds, I got a decent job again, I moved into my own place, I've pretty much gotten my shit together.
But of course, the depression and ADHD are still there. To the point where it's affecting my work and my boss gave me a talking to.
That means it's time to do something.
So I went to the doctor, mentioned the problems I've had in the past, and he set me up with some Cymbalta and Strattera samples. At least these particular meds work somewhat differently - Cymbalta is a SSNRI - affects norepinephrine as well as seritonin, maybe it will work a little better with my brain chemistry, and the Strattera will give me some focus at work without the stimulant jitters and gradually building tolerance and concerns about taking legal speed.
I just wondered what experiences others here have had with these particular meds.
