Does Xanax put you to sleep like valium?

If I take a 5mg of valium, I'm ready for a major nap. Is Xanax like that. I've been thinking of asking the doc to change but only if it will perform differently.

2. It's in the same family, so that's not unusual

However, it tends to go through your system faster, and has a shorter activation time than Valium. Valium tends to stick in your system for 4-8 hours, while IIRC Xanax is only 1-2 hours.

3. Try taking half the dose.

The idea is to knock out the anxiety, not put you to sleep.
When you get the right dosage, it really does knock out the anxiety.

4. Yes it does. My doc doesn't believe in Valium.

Half a 5mg is enough before bedtime.

5. When I take .5 mg at bedtime I notice residual anti-anxiety effects the following day.

I never take more than .25 mg if I want to stay awake.

6. yes. I used to take it for flying anxiety

and I would have to crash in my car for an hour or so after landing. :rofl: I finally gave it up for the time consideration and learned some calming techniques on my own.

Best sleep you'll get, I won't even take it if I can't get AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep.
