Depression and hopelessness |
|
I suffer from depression and anxiety. I have several health problems (IBS, Vocal cord dysfunction) that are tied to stress as well.
I am really down and can't afford to go see a doctor or therapist. I have checked around town and can't find anyone who will give me any free or reduced price help.
I have a neighbor harassing me and it has escalated to a really bad level and I don't know how much more I can take. I can't sleep. I'm having nightmares when I CAN sleep. I have been crying so much that my eyes feel like they are full of sand. My heart is pounding and I am filed with a feeling of dread.
There is no one besides my husband I can vent to, especially in regard to the problem with my neighbor- No one believes me!
Things feel very dark right now and I just don't know how I'm going to get through it.

1. Have you contacted the police about the neighbor? |
|
Please try it.
Any hospitals, and/or teaching hospitals around? Try ER.
Breathe deeply.
Others here will offer more suggestions.
Peace.

Not only will they not do anything, but I am at risk for arrest due to one of the false reports she has made.
Long story and her report is completely false, I am 100% innocent, and it doesn't matter to anyone.
I asked them what I had to do to make this yearlong plus campaign of harassment stop, and they tell me that the way to make it stop is to get rid of my dog (who is the subject of her latest complaint). No joke.
So I get rid of my dog and she is suddenly going to stop using various differing agencies and individuals to harass me? Sure. Naive, but whatever.
I will continue to look for help. Did check with ER. They don't want me to go there unless I am suicidal, which I am not. They suggested private counseling (very helpful :eyes: )

6. See if there's a Legal Aid around... |
|
I wouldn't get rid of the dog...that'll compound your stress. But Legal Aid may have some suggestions and they're usually very cheap-there's one in nearly every decent sized city or university town with a law school.
My neighbors are pains in my ass, but fortunately, they're scared to death of me. They know I'm dialed into our university, and since they're undergrads, one more call to the police and they're evicted and the university will make their lives unpleasant. Plus, seeing a wild-haired, tattooed woman fly out of the house at 3 in the morning telling you, for the hundredth time, to shut the hell up, tends to freak people out. They smoke in front of their house, which happens to be right next to my bedroom window. I have generalized anxiety disorder and sleeping through the night is a luxury for me...

3. No luck finding what I need, but I did find an out of town hotline |
|
and was able to call and just talk to someone and "vent" a little for about an hour. No replacement for ongoing counseling (which Is what is needed), but at least it was something to help a little in the meantime.

4. Off my meds I'm a train wreck. |
|
It starts with the nightmares and progresses into something almost hallucinatory when I'm awake, which seems to be brought on by a combination of lack of sleep and whatever is wrong with my brain in the first place.
There's one med that helps me a lot, and it's a generic on the various "four dollar" pharmaceutical lists. It's the one thing I would take even if I couldn't afford my other meds, and I'd even buy it at Wal-Mart if I had to.
I know it's difficult to find a doctor when you are end of your rope, and I'm even worse than that, since I've had at times plenty of resources available to me and still had to be forced to see a doctor by friends and family very nearly against my will. But I pretty much accept that about myself now and have built a support system to keep an eye out for me. I joke that if I ever get seriously out of whack they can hunt me down and shoot a tranquilizer dart in my butt and drag me back to my doctor. I really don't want to be a semi-homeless feral person ever again.
Good luck! I hope you can find something that helps -- medicine, counseling, sunshine... you never know, everyone is different.

5. Neighbors can really suck. |

There is someone you can vent to besides your husband though. Us. It's what we're here for, so don't hesitate to unload if needed. :)

7. Try Acidophilus - I KNOW it works for IBS - and will probably help with the vocal cord thing too |
|
. . .
Acidophilus is a friendly bacteria that the body makes/needs
Women, especially after 30 years old seem to be deficient in this bacteria - available from pharmacies and health food stores
no prescription needed
Acidophilus is a PRO-biotic, not an ANTI-biotic
most doctors don't get it yet
beefing up the immune system with a Pro-biotic is far better than fooling our immune system with an Antibiotic
Acidophilus cures/prevents yeast infections, tummy aches, sore throats - and so much more
AND IT AIN'T A DRUG!!
It is something our body makes on it's own, but our diet/habits deplete it
Acidophilus
check it out
OH
almost forgot - for the vocal cords?
First of all - get the refrigerated kind in capsules
open the capsule and pour it into your mouth, let it linger at the back of your throat before you swallow it
I used to give it to kids for sore throats that way
sore throat would be gone in 5 minutes
taste?
well, the kids called it "white chocolate"
if it tasted like shit
they woulda told me
