Really depressed and I can't break out of it. |
|
Damn, I don't know what to do.
I waited nearly an hour for my doctor's appointment today only to find out there were still three people ahead of me. I was so tired I had to go home. I'm so tired I can't go grocery shopping...so tired I can't pick up my prescriptions.
I know I have sleep apnea. I'm using the CPAP.
I don't know what else to do.

2. Thanks. My meds are already being adjusted. |
|
I missed my appointment today because I'm just so tired.
I e-mailed my primary care provider, but I don't know what can be done. I'm having trouble taking care of myself.

whether ever done or not. VERY common problem, either hypo (too little thyroid juice) or hyper (too much.) Treated easily with supplement.

6. Yep, my ex-wife (the DUer Angel) has hypothyroidism. |
|
Her energy levels were trashed half the time. I had my thyroid taken out due to cancer a few years ago and I've noticed since then that my energy levels are a lot lower sometimes then they used to be. I'm bipolar, and I used to go days and days at a time with no sleep at all. Not anymore. I also notice I have a lot less depression overall. The thyroid apparently controls a lot. :)
Ladyhawk, definitely get that checked first. If your thyroid is ok, then maybe a counselor can help with some of the symptoms bothering you, which sound like flat out depression to me. The lack of sleep is a major trouble though, and that will compound every other problem you're facing. Have you tried any lite sleep aids?
Good luck.

7. Have your GP check your serum Vitamin D level. More and more |
|
researchers are blaming seasonal affective disorder (SAD) on lack of Vitamin D. It's a side effect of no sunlight, easily cured with some vitamin supplements. For what it's worth, everyone I know who has been tested has been found to have a low level or extremely low level!

8. I take vitamin D and have a SAD light. |
|
Maybe it's not enough.
Also, I was so tired I couldn't wait for my appointment yesterday and left. I probably would have ended up waiting 2 hours or more. My primary care provider isn't happy with me.

I've had depression for 25 years and so far no one has been able to help me. I've tried every SSRI you can think of. Meds don't seem to work for me. If I call for an appointment, it will be weeks before I can get in. I'm wondering why I should even bother.

This is a field with advances almost day by day.
On edit: I talked about vitamin D and someone else mentioned thyroid. Maybe your first step is to have a thorough check-up to rule out any secondary sources for your problem. Again, you may be dealing with something you weren't dealing with 20 years ago OR medicine may now recognize what you're dealing with as something besides or in addition to depression. Chronic fatigue syndrome is now accepted as a real disease where 20 years ago it was dismissed as "all in their heads".

... I was where you are now, just a couple weeks ago. Every morning is still a challenge for me to get out of bed and go to work. I usually cry almost the whole way there in the car.
Please take care of yourself, get to that dr's appointment, and know that I'm sending you white light O8)

14. are you sure your cpap is working for you? |
|
sleep deprivation is the most treatable cause of depression. maybe things have changed, or the unit is malfunctioning, or.... worth getting it checked out.
hang in there.

The sleep center people always act like they'd much rather be anywhere else.

they get paid to take care of this shit. if you think that might be the problem, or even part of the problem, get them out there. and really, most people would rather be somewhere else than at their job. you just have to focus on getting better.
