Can anyone recommend a history of the Roman Catholic Church?

Perhaps an overview discussing its influence on cultural, social, economic and political life? Ha ha, I know that's a very broad topic -- but any thoughts on a good book?

1. "Rabbi Jesus", "James, the Brother of Jesus"

and "Constantine's Sword".

Those are not so much overviews, but a very well written mix covering the beginning to the middle of the story.
