| A question about the history of abortion |
|
I'm putting it here instead of GD, in the hopes of avoiding the flamebait and general disinfo likely to crop up.
I know that herbal abortifacients were quite popular for a long time (Shakespeare even mentions them). And a Pope first said they're murder at the end of the 16th century.
The question is, when did they first start to become illegal? Why was Roe even necessary? Someone had to make the decision that this procedure, standard for much of human history, is now wrong. Was it the Pope decision that did it? Was it codification of cultural mores? Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, this is purely a quest to satisfy a question, no ulterior motive beyond just wanting to understand.

Bastard. :hi:
I failed use the "history" tag in my searching on wikipedia, and got nothing. I plead illness; I'm just recovering from the influenza.
