Lavender(LOL), "Phlegm", Ginny, Hermione, Luna (SPOILERS AHEAD) |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 10:30 AM by Pithy Cherub
Ok, the women were just a total riot in this book!
A SOBBING Cissy Malfoy...
Fleur, just knocked it out of the Weasley Love Park at the end - Go Fleur! And Tonks, wow, that was a bit of unrequited love affecting your whole life. Luna, going to the party with Harry - and Hermione running from her date while watching Ron (won-won) french kiss Lavender everyday all day.
Move on to the love potions and the Harry love stalkers. Ginny in a liplock with Dean and Harry getting permission to kiss Ginny... Meanwhile, Rosemerta gets cursed, Pansy pets Draco and Hermione drove me nuts with the birds attacking Ron (LOLLOL)it was so not her...and yet totally her.
And "Mollywobbles"...don't know who was more embarrassed in that scene...
More thoughts on the women...

1. I was thinking Cissy in her motherly desperation |
|
was the first sympathetic character out of Voldemort's followers.
Ginny cracks me up! That tatoo scene was awesome!
Very glad about Tonks and Lupin. And Fleur turned out to be more than just another pretty vela!
I also noticed Malfoy's head in Pansy's lap on the train, which I thought was rahwther risque for a children's book, especially considering the detail that was probably edited from the book.

2. My Cissy thought was "OH NO" she's going to give Draco |
|
the same motherly protection Harry has and she's going to die. My "harumpf's" were overheard, but what really bugged me how Cissy went all maternal when SHE had not reared Draco to do the right thing and now she's depending on someone else to protect her child.
Ginny is hilarious... her sense of humor is wicked, profane and wrapped in the best looking package. Oh and did she lay her brother out about kissing or what! She and Fleur will be Hell on Wheels together!
And Hermione, just tell Ron(Won-Won) please you want to jump his bones already!
My thought was that the books are aimed at showing how the continuation of life through friends and family - agape - is the key to a thriving wizarding world. Agape, translated is that you have to love something more than yourself so that you will sacrifice for it! what a beautiful ancient and everlasting moral for the books! The women all embodied it in different ways.
Loved it! :pals:

4. Apparently, though, Cissy did not raise a cold-blooded killer. |
|
Draco must have been born right around the time LV went down, so perhaps Cissy had raised him with a modicom of conscience thinking the world free of the Dark Lord. That Draco couldn't kill DD when it came down to it actually reflects well on Cissy, imo.

In the end he will send others to do his bidding - ;) Letting Death Eaters into the school was not a moral stand, he knew they would kill with little or no provocation. I think Draco couldn't kill DD either because DD was playing with his head with a nonverbal spell or Draco didn't want to live his life on the run. It seems Draco willingly went to the Dark Lord and Cissy was a-OK with that, just not the outcome. She knew her husband was Death Eater - the mark on his arm would not have been hidden from her.
You may be somewhat right as Sirius said everyone is not purely good or purely evil. (Voldy a whole different deal - total sociopath) It goes to what Dumbledore said , one's choices...

|
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 10:45 AM by XemaSab
the more I am completely convinced that the scene between Narcissa and Snape was written to be suggestive.
How, exactly, do you think Narcissa thanked Snape for protecting her son?
And furthermore, if love is the redemptive force here, where will they wind up?

25. Cissy is a pureblood, honest to goodness Slytherin. |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 12:12 PM by Pithy Cherub
Her status first (Snape would not be totally acceptable as he is a half-blood) would be protected, then her son, the cowardly self-loathing Draco, then her Cheney-like husband, Luscious Lucius. Snape is a tool, a mere means to an end as far as preserving her family. Her redemption, s because she does have an ability to love - even if it is "narcissistically"...
Bellatrix, her beloved sister, followed her to keep her out of trouble. Don't believe it is anything beyond that.

26. Who's to say that slumming with a half-blood |
|
isn't where she gets her kicks?
I think there's LOTS more evidence for a Narcissa-Snape relationship than there is for Snape and anyone else.

Draco had a tough year, he was pretty stressed out, crying in the boy's room and whatnot. I wonder if Snape might not persuade him to join the fight against LV in the next book.
Why would he join Potter's side?
a) To save his own ass after letting down the Dark Lord. b) To save his father and/or mother's ass from some unforseen LV action. c) To fulfill the Sorting Hat's foreshadowing that all the Hogwart's houses must stick together, thus ensuring the preservation and continuation of the school.

18. Several Slytherin's need to be on the path to redemption. |
|
It makes sense to restore some honor to the group. I think your conclusions are very good. I also think Draco needs to make the CHOICE on his own in order to be self-actualized, if he is to truly live.

16. That Pansy/Draco scene was tame |
|
Compared to a lot of the subtext and innuendo, at any rate.
There is a lot of stuff in this book that is totally going to fly over a kid's head. Just like the last three, or so.

3. "A sobbing Cissy Malfoy" isn't as surprising to me as her being called |
|
"Cissy" in the first place! Fleur really came through at the end: "I am pretty enough for both of us, I theenk." LOL! I LOVE Luna, and while I like Neville well enough, is it too snobbish to hope Luna ends up with someone else? I just don't see them as a couple. I WAS surprised that Tonks, as a trained auror, was so off her stride due to being love-sick. As for Draco's head in Pansy's lap, it would be more risque if it was the other way around!

9. Luna and Neville will be pals, |
|
but that would not work as a couple with passion. Neville needs someone who is into plants or science. Luna needs to find someone who can stop the influence of her dotty dad, she is afterall a Ravenclaw. Luna's stock had to have risen after Harry took her out and delivered the most entertaining conspiracy theory.
Draco & Pansy - blech - but somebody had to..

7. Definitely a lot of shipper material here |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 10:50 AM by XemaSab
Filch and Pince... sheesh.... I almost think Rowling threw that in as a tongue-in-cheek shoutout to her shipper fans.
The part I thought was "rawther risque" was the fantasy-in-a-box, "to 16 and overs only." 16 is the age of consent in Britain.
On edit: And duh, got to mention the... closeness... of Cissy and Snape. She seemed familiar with how to get to his house, and they were both very "touchy-feely." Maybe she's been *LONELY* with Malfoy in prison?

|
Will Lavender console Dean? The beautiful Parvati twins are still available. Will Ron ever get to the courage to date Hermione?
And Fred & George - Angelina & Katie?
The women's courage and bravery in all things was excellent JKR :applause:!

17. Ginny was always powerful, |

just inexperienced. She was also handicapped by her love of Harry. Her maturity is what finally made it possible. I have a feeling it will be a foursome on that last journey.

21. She's on the rebound since Harry stopped visiting her. |
|
It could set up some intersting dynamics. Which house was Myrtle from again? I don't think it was Slytherin, but I do think Myrtle has shown some anti-social behavior. Crying all the time, and lashing out and swooshing down the nearest toilet like a brat when she perceives slights. If she wasn't dead, I'd say she was perfect for Draco.
