Years ago I read a fantasy novel that I greatly enjoyed, but have forgotten the title. The plot goes something like this: God and the Devil make a bet as to whether or not one of the Devil's minions can suborn an angel. Heaven's emissary is a lovely female, wearing, as I recall, Victorian clothing, Hell's emissary is a handsome devil. They meet and fall in love, which is not supposed to happen. Both Heaven and Hell get upset and try to separate them. They take refuge with an old Jewish man, who I vaguely remember is the legendary Wandering Jew. At the end of the book Heaven and Hell agree to let the couple marry. The wedding ceremony has music by Saint Cecelia. Again, if I recall correctly, the deal is that the couple lives, like Persephone, half the year in Hell and half in Heaven. If anyone recognizes this and remembers the title, I'd be most appreciative.
